Stevie Wonder Kneels Through National Anthem Performance in Austin

Stevie Wonder performed during the closing concert at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Austin, Texas on Sunday night (October 23). The highly acclaimed and always outspoken singer remained kneeling throughout his performance of The National Anthem.

Austin360 reports that while addressing the crowd, Wonder called for change:

“It is time for the leader of this nation, the leaders in the varied political positions that they hold, the people, we as artists—all of us come together as a united people of these United States of America. In the home of the United States, or the united people of America—not some but all. Feel me, feel me, Mr. President.”

Recently Wonder took a knee during his performance at the 2017 Global Citizen FestivalStevie Wonder in solidarity with former San Francisco 49er Colin Kaepernick. While doing so, he made the statement:

“Tonight, I’m taking a knee for America.” While on both knees, he prayed for “our planet, our future, our leaders of the world, and our globe.”
