To truly judge and album, we love to climb into the car and head out on to the open road. Lines blurring, the motion of the city turning into the country. These are the things that provide the backdrop for fully settling into an album. It was true from the invention of the radio and will stand the test of time.
Most recently we have been vibing on David Myles new album Real Love. To us, it feels cinematic. Not because it is overly produced, but more like a Quentin Tarantino joint. Dramatic flairs mixed into breaks that push and pull. The music could easily backdrop his next Pulp Fiction film (we know it’s not realistic, but we can dream). As to his sound, think rockabilly Elvis meets Steve McQueen. Yeah, that cool.
The titular track premiered in mid-January and set the pace for what turned out to be an easy first quarter top 10 pick. One of our favorite things is the beginning and end of the aforementioned single. The line, “Everybody here’s living in a dream.” That perfectly encapsulates the entire album. For that matter, it is our entire existence.
The office favorite is a tale of a boxing match gone south. “Knock Out” is all guts and hope.
“Well I nod my head to tell him, “He’s back!” the crowd is yelling.” You feel the emotion, taste the sweat. This is the real life, and we are never down and out.
Our advice: push play. It’s just that simple. Myles will do the rest.
